So, what sparked my french macaron craze? Honestly, I have no idea. It all started with Instagram, really. When I started following popular YouTube fashionistas, I kept seeing french macarons in my news feed and wondered what they heck these cute little sandwich cookies are. I have never really seen one in person and never even tried one! Since my interest about these precious cookies sparked curiosity, I started to wonder if I can even find such cookies around my area and to my disappointment, there were no such locations. Okay, I lied, I heard only select Starbucks carry them throughout the U.S., but none near me and only at a limited time. Trader Joe's carry them as well and, actually, reviews reveal that they taste better than the Starbucks kind.
So, before actually making them, have I tried them? Nope! I'm stubborn and decided to make them myself. ;) The picture on the right was my very first time making these delicate cookies. And I must admit, I did pretty good for my first try, but I did not like the taste at first. As soon as I took them out of the oven and filled them with strawberry ganache, I tried it. It was too airy, dry, and crunchy. I hadn't realized that I was supposed to let them sit in the fridge for at least 2 days to soften and give that great inner chewy texture while keeping the outer crunch. Since my first try, there has been at least two other batches that did not fair well. I think it's safe to say that I have experienced all kinds of mishaps when making these delicate cookies that I think I have perfected them. Knowing my faults and/or mistakes will only make me an experienced chef in the kitchen! It's been 3 months since I started making these little babies and I have yet to try them outside my home.
Now that I have perfected the art of making french macarons, I just can't stop making them! They are just too cute and they taste so good! My friends and family love them! My hubby approves of the strawberry and green tea flavored macarons and so do I! I have a few flavors in mind that I want to try in the future, but you will have to stay tuned for them! :)
Happy cooking everyone!
